Let us first start by understanding two major types of traffic: organic and paid.
Organic traffic is traffic that you get naturally without having to pay for it.
The biggest source of organic traffic is search traffic.
The traffic you get when a person types a search term (a keyword or a question) into Google, or any other search engine, and your blog post comes up in the results, and they click on it.
Nonetheless, organic traffic can also include direct traffic or referral traffic.
Direct traffic is when someone types your URL directly into their browser or clicks on a link in an email.
It occurs when a visitor arrives directly on a website, without having clicked on a link on another site.
Referral traffic is when someone clicks on a link to your blog from another website without searching for your blog on Google.
Paid traffic on the other hand is traffic that you pay for.
Paid traffic includes Facebook advertising, Google AdWords, Bing ads, Twitter ads, Pinterest ads, and more.
Organic traffic is an important part of any long-term content marketing strategy, so don’t neglect it.
You can always pay for traffic whenever you need it, especially in the beginning.
Paid traffic is obviously the surefire way to get traffic no matter what.
Organic search traffic isn’t nearly as complicated as you may think.
But, how simple is it to get organic traffic?
There are also 2 major things you need to rank #1 on Google.
To outrank your competitors on page 1 of Google, all you need to do is show Google 2 things:

It helps you discover specific words and sentences that users type in Google and other search engines to find the content they are looking for.
Usually, beginners just rely on their best guesses when creating content. As you can imagine, this strategy is a hit or miss.
If you use the “guess” strategy, then a lot of your blog posts will likely not do well in search engines.
Simply because no one’s looking for the keywords you have used, or there is just too much competition for those keywords.
Keyword research isn’t about finding one high volume keyword and ranking for that single keyword alone.
It’s about coming up with a keyword strategy with a variety of terms that are relevant to your product and industry.
But if that’s too narrow, don’t be afraid to expand on different keywords in your industry.
If you do expand on new keyword families, just don’t forget to identify the search intent behind them and try to serve that search intent with your content.

Now the question is how do you actually do keyword research? Luckily, it is not as difficult as you would think.
There are a lot of free and paid tools that can help you do proper keyword research.
All you would have to do is enter a keyword, a competitor’s blog/website URL, or your own URL to find out more keyword ideas.

Speaking of SEO, keywords are at the heart of SEO. One of the easiest ways to generate more traffic to your website is to ensure that every page on your site has a keyword strategy.
For each blog post you write, choose one key phrase that you have researched and believe readers would use to find that post.
Next, incorporate that phrase into the title of the post, the headline on the page, within the content on the page at least two times, in a featured image on the page, and also as part of the page link.
Don’t use the most popular parent keywords in your industry. For example, don’t use “business ideas” – because this is a top-level-keyword that’s highly competitive, and it would be hard for a new website to rank for it.
Instead, use long-tail keywords like “most profitable business ideas.” Keywords like this usually have a lower volume, but they’re not as competitive – they’re low hanging fruits.
Keyword concentration helps Google understand what that page is about, which can ultimately lead to more traffic from the search engines.
Furthermore, search engines rank websites based on factors like trust, size, popularity, and age on a scale from 1-100. This is called DA (domain authority).
For example, if your website is new – it has a domain authority of 1, while platforms like Facebook have a domain authority of 99.
It’s difficult for a website with low domain authority to rank for short-tail keywords with high monthly searches.
A new website will have higher chances to rank for long-tail keywords because there is far less competition.back to menu ↑
Latent semantic indexing (LSI) keywords are words and phrases with a high degree of similarity to your target topic.
Google’s algorithm uses them to help determine the content quality and relevance to the search term.
LSI opened the doors for Google to understand anchor text used in hyperlinks and “link neighborhoods,” or groups of sites that link to one another.
With all of that in one update, Google’s search results dramatically changed.
They weren’t just looking for exact-match keywords anymore — the algorithm could understand synonyms and context.
That means Google doesn’t just look at a single keyword on your page and how often you use it. Instead, it looks at everything your page offers.
Most old school SEO strategies simple don’t work anymore.
That’s because Google’s Hummingbird algorithm changed EVERYTHING about SEO.
Instead of ONLY looking at keywords, Google now understands topics.
(How big of a change was this update? Google said that: “Hummingbird affects 90% of all searches…”. Wow).
The question is: How do you make sure that Google understands your content’s topic?
Use LSI Keywords.
For example, let’s say you just wrote a post about Seo.
LSI keywords would be words and phrases like:

Another way is to find content that is already ranking for your keyword. Find a keyword that your customers search for every day, and it also has a high suggested bid.
This is important because it means a lot of people are running AdWords on this keyword.
This means that there is strong commercial intent behind this keyword. (In other words, people searching for your keyword are usually looking to make a purchase.)
You can do this with a tool called, Google Search Console. It is a free tool provided by Google that helps you see how your website is doing in Google Search.back to menu ↑
Google Search Console will not tell you who is ranking higher than you and why.
That’s why you might consider looking into your competitors’ content and keyword strategies if you’re out of ideas.
For that, you’ll need SEMRush. Using this tool, you can get detailed insights into your competitors, their top keywords, and what you need to do to outrank them.

Guest blogging for blog traffic generation can be a good strategy, and land backlinks and strengthen your backlink profile.
Reaching out to sites in your niche and industry means that you’ll be getting your link in front of potential new readers and site visitors that are in your target audience.
To implement a guest posting strategy, you need to locate other blogs that reach your target audience and offer to contribute guest blog posts.
Draft a blog post, and then write a pitch.
Caroline Forsey, a staff writer on the HubSpot Marketing Blog, says, “I’m always particularly intrigued with a guest pitch if it shows me the writer has done their research ahead of time”.
If the site has a substantial audience, you can bet that readers will in turn want to engage with more of your content.
Now, of course, guest posting usually involves some sort of exchange between the two websites in question, and it can be the good old link exchange.
But the key to landing a few good guest posts each month is a streamlined email outreach strategy.

This is a huge problem because most people will read your guest post and skip the author’s bio section.

When it comes to content marketing, there’s something to be said about length.
The pillar post should be in one long-form article.
Long-from content refers to posts with high word counts that go into HUGE depth on a particular topic.
A while back BuzzSumo analyzed a million articles.
The purpose of this research was to identify which TYPES of content worked best.
And they found that long-form content gets more shares and backlinks than short posts (<1,000 words):
In fact, as you can see in the chart above, long content (>3k words) gets an average of 208% more shares than short articles.
There are a couple of reasons why long-form content helps to generate higher positions in search results.
The average content length for a web page that ranks in the top 10 results for any keyword on Google has at least 2,000 words.

Tip: although long-form posts typically attract more readers than very short ones, it is important not to get too carried away with length.
If you are creating huge articles just for the sake of a long-form blog post, and this is at the expense of creating useful content.

Images in your blog posts grab user’s attention and help them focus on not just the visual element but also the text around it.
If you’re just starting out, then it’s important to know that you cannot just use any image you see on the internet.
Images are protected by copyright and stealing copyrighted material can have serious consequences.
Ideally, you want to use your own images, graphics, and photographs, but not all bloggers are graphic designers or photographers.
Luckily, there are so many great resources to find royalty-free images.
There are even tools that you can use to easily create your own graphics.
It’s REALLY important to use good images in any blog posts you publish.
